Located just north of Pasadena, Altadena is bordered by the Angeles National Forest and lies at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains. Although it is an unincorporated part of Los Angeles County, Altadena retains a quaint atmosphere. Andrew McNally, a printing magnate from Chicago, and his friend Colonel G. G. Greene came to Altadena in its early years. They built mansions on Mariposa Street, which would later become Millionaire’s Row. Despite its quiet nature, Altadena still offers residents excitement in the form of proximity to Pasadena and downtown Los Angeles. The Rose Bowl, the Santa Anita racetrack and the LA County Arboretum are all within 15 minutes of Altadena. Downtown LA, Chinatown, Beverly Hills and Universal’s City Walk are all within 30 minutes. Yet, Altadena has its own unique attractions. The city prides itself on its business-friendly atmosphere and excellent schools. Altadena’s Mariposa Village offers shopping and a beautiful library, while the Theater Americana produces original plays. Real estate options consist of single family homes, townhouses, and condos.
